ExperimentsCucumbers
Cucumbers in a software office.
Climbing cucumbers grown in fabric grow bags in my office — from a labelled seedling in March to cucumbers hanging on the vine in July. A shorter log than the tomatoes, because I recorded less: here's what the footage shows, and what it doesn't.
- Seedling on video
- 30 Mar 2026 · labelled
- Containers
- Black fabric grow bags
- Growing space
- Shared office space by the windows
- Cucumbers on the vine
- 23 Jul 2026
No cucumber counts or harvest weights were measured.

Will a climbing cucumber grow and set fruit indoors, in the same office as the tomatoes?
The setup, and what the evidence covers
Visible in the footage
- A cucumber seedling in a black fabric grow bag, labelled with its seed packet — 30 March 2026
- Grow bags placed in the same office space as the tomatoes, by the floor-to-ceiling windows
- Vines tied to vertical stakes and green string
- Yellow flowers and cucumbers hanging on the vine — 23 July 2026
Not documented
- Sowing date and cucumber variety
- How the supports were set up beyond what's visible
- Pollination
- Light, feeding and watering — including whether they matched the tomatoes
- Number of cucumbers, harvest dates and harvested weight
No cucumber-specific measurements were written down, so there's no "recorded in notes" column for this experiment.
From seedling to fruit

A labelled seedling
A young cucumber plant in its grow bag, with the seed packet as its label.

Growing by the windows
The office plants in their grow bags — tomatoes and cucumbers together; individual plants aren't identified in this shot.
Cucumbers hanging on the vine

The strongest evidence in this experiment: cucumbers and yellow flowers on vines climbing stakes and string, filmed in the office.

Results and limitations
What happened
Cucumber plants grew in the office, and cucumbers were documented hanging on the vine on 23 July 2026.
What was documented
Dated footage of the labelled seedling and of the fruit, the fabric grow bags, and the stakes and string the vines climbed.
What wasn't measured
How many cucumbers grew, when they were picked and what they weighed — and the details of light, feeding, watering and pollination.
What could be measured next time
Cucumbers picked per plant, each harvest date and weight, and the sowing and transplant dates.
